Perspective II: Manet’s Balcony by René Magritte, 1950.



The figures in Manet’s painting have been replaced in Magritte’s by coffins. The place of the living is taken by dead objects, which may be also be commentary on the expressions of the models themselves. It also exhibits Magritte’s fascination with the transfer of life to still life and reality to painting.
