Sunday Dalí: The Temptation of Saint Anthony, 1946. Oil on canvas, 33⅞ x 47 inches. Musées Royaux des Beaux-Arts de Belgique, Brussels, Belgium.
The Temptation of Saint Anthony is early for Dalí’s Nuclear-Mysticism phase; nonetheless, it is often thought of in the same vein. The work was actually created for a competition to be the featured image for a film by Albert Lewin. Among the other entrants were Max Ernst, who ended up winning the competition, Dorothea Tanning, and Paul Delvaux.
