The Lovers by René Magritte
I am reposting this (very famous) Magritte because it was the very first post this 365 project made a year ago. I have always been interested in surrealism and I became inspired by the works of Magritte that were featured (oddly enough) on the Google homepage to honor his birthday. Since no one saw the post but me, so I think it is safe to reblog it.
I have learned a lot about surrealism over the course of this project. I discovered hundreds of new artists from numerous countries. I wrote two papers on Surrealism and music. I am in the midst of writing my dissertation on Surrealism and music as well. For every post I make, I review 4-10 pieces that don’t make it. I don’t know enough about Surrealism yet, but I know a lot more than when I started, so this has been a personally rewarding project.
I have no intentions of discontinuing this blog anytime soon. I enjoy the exercise of curating. Furthermore, I really enjoy the enormous amount of appreciation there is for this great artistic movement. A few days ago this blog received its 700th follower on Tumblr, and there are numerous RSS followers as well. I think that says a lot for a blog that posts one piece of controversial art everyday. To all of you have have faithfully read and followed this project, thank you.
(edit: I am re-re-posting this because, yet again, Tumblr barfed in its PJs and posted it prematurely. I apologize to everyone who was injured in this incident.)
