Sunday Dalí: Senicitas (Little Cinders), 1927-28.
Also known as Summer Forces or The Birth of Venus.
You can really see Dalí’s early surrealist style just starting to come into form in the 1927 period.
The man’s severed head appearing lifeless is that of Dalí’s friend Garcia Lorca. Lorca was known for his ability to “play dead” for exceptionally long periods of time. The fragmentary appearance is revelatory of Dalí’s dream influences.
